So Eindhoven Airport promotes even more sustainable and quieter planes

To reduce the impact of flying on the environment, aviation wants and needs to become more sustainable. The pace at which this is happening must increase. Airports are taking responsibility both internationally and nationally. With clear goals, Eindhoven Airport shows the course it is taking and the goals it has in mind for accelerated sustainability. Eindhoven Airport is working hard to accelerate sustainability. The airport's goal for 2030 is to reduce noise pollution and CO₂ emissions caused by air traffic by thirty percent compared to 2019.

Cleaner and quieter flying By purchasing the latest generation of cleaner and quieter aircraft, airlines are making a significant contribution to this goal. For example, Wizz Air, Ryanair, TUI and Pegasus already regularly deploy the latest generation aircraft at Eindhoven Airport. Last year, almost one in five aircraft at Eindhoven Airport was cleaner and quieter. Recently, the airport also received Transavia's first cleaner and quieter A321NEO.

Good news for environment and surroundings To inform the environment about the fleet renewal and the specific advantages of the latest generation of aircraft, Eindhoven Airport organized demonstrations together with several airlines. Experts from TUI, Wizz Air and Eindhoven Airport explained the fleet renewal and the latest generation of aircraft. More and more airlines are replacing their aircraft with the latest generation of aircraft, such as the Airbus A320 and A321 NEO and the Boeing B737 MAX. Those aircraft use less fuel than their predecessors. As a result, CO₂ emissions are decreasing. The noise produced by these aircraft is also lower than that of older aircraft. This is good news for the environment and the surrounding area.

From 2030 only latest generation aircraft welcome Recently Eindhoven Airport took the next step with measures to accelerate sustainability towards 2030. The proportion of newest generation aircraft at Eindhoven Airport will continue to grow in the run-up to 2030. At the end of 2022, the percentage was around 13 percent. At the end of 2023 it was almost 20 percent.

From 2030 at the latest, only the newest generation aircraft will be welcome at the airport. That means 100 percent fleet renewal in no more than seven years.

Lower port fees for quieter and cleaner aircraft Eindhoven Airport wants to promote and accelerate the growth and use of the latest generation of aircraft. From April 2023, the airport will charge a lower port fee to airlines that use these very aircraft at Eindhoven Airport.

There is a lower rate for quieter aircraft and a lower rate for aircraft that emit less CO₂. In addition, a lower rate applies if less nitrogen oxides are emitted.

To discourage flying in the early morning and late evening, a lower rate has long applied when airlines fly during the day (rather than in the early morning or evening hours).
