Newest generation of aircrafts
Only latest-generation aircraft at Eindhoven Airport by 2030
By 2030, we will only allow latest-generation aircraft (like the Airbus A320 NEO and Boeing 737 MAX) at Eindhoven Airport. This means 100% fleet renewal by 2023, thus meeting the target of 30% noise abatement by 2030 compared to 2019, while also reducing CO2 emissions. It could also give the airport room to develop even better regional connections.
According to the Van Geel recommendation to which Eindhoven Airport is committed, the airport is allowed to grow if there is more than 60% fleet renewal. There will soon be 100% fleet renewal; because from 2030 only the newest generation aircraft are welcome at Eindhoven Airport. Will Eindhoven Airport grow in number of flights from 2030?
We have mutually set the goal that our noise levels in 2030 will be 30% lower than in 2019. This requires fleet renewal. We want to switch to the noise-based control model (instead of flight movements) advised by Pieter van Geel as of 2028. It is then up to us to stay within noise standards from 2028. Incidentally, we do not expect this to involve a huge increase in flight movements but we do not rule out limited growth in advance either. Growth is not the goal. Less noise pollution and less CO2 emissions is. Within that, we want to shape our operation.
How much less CO2 will be emitted if only newest generation aircraft are allowed at Eindhoven Airport by 2030 at the latest?
30% CO2 reduction in 2030 can be achieved by 100% fleet renewal and the admixture of SAF. Both contribute about 50/50 to this reduction. A small part could be realized through improvements from the airspace review (Single European Sky) but as this is quite uncertain, we don’t take this into account with the calculations for the 30% CO2 reduction goal.
Sustainability through fleet renewal
