Flying to Vilnius
The capital of Lithuania

A city with many faces but where the past is always near. A stroll through the Old Town lets you get away from it all. Some say that ‘you can't love what you don't know’, which in a way rings very true to Vilnius. Or does that have more to do with the vision of 'the invisible city'? Whatever the case, Vilnius is a truly surprising city trip destination and what's even better, it's only a two-hour flight from Eindhoven!
Places to visit in Vilnius
Vilnius has experienced continuous growth since its beginnings in medieval times. Many historic features are still visible today, such as the huge variety of churches and cathedrals, built in the traditions of Baroque, Renaissance and Gothic eras. But the Gediminas Castle and the Vilnius University also live and breathe history. So it is not surprising that the Old Town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. The diversity of architecture and history is matched by the city's wide choice in entertainment. You can attend classical music performances in the Palais des Congrès, or head to the old town for lively cafés, trendy nightclubs or even a SkyBar.
Discover Vilnius
There is plenty of choice in terms of food and drink in Vilnius, and at an affordable price. Lithuanian cuisine is all about the potato. Bulviniai Blinai, potato pancakes, and Vedarai, potato sausage, are particular favourites. Or enjoy a traditional cold red beet soup during summer, and potato pancakes in all sorts of varieties all year round. You should also try cepelinai (Zeppelini), dumplings made with grated potatoes filled with meat.
