“The airport belongs to all of us”

Edwin van de Wiel from d'Ekker is team leader at ground handling agent Viggo and lives virtually next door to Eindhoven Airport. “Being so close is handy. I'm at my work in no time and I get to fly from home.” Edwin is responsible for managing some sixty-five colleagues on the airport apron. Edwin is the first point of contact and coach for the marshaller who brings the aircraft onto the apron, the pushback drivers, the staff in the baggage hall and the colleagues who take care of catering and de-icing. But he also jumps in when needed and is involved in various projects. “I love the dynamics, the variation in the work and the collaboration. The airport belongs to all of us.” Edwin has a great time with his colleagues and on the apron between the aeroplanes. Edwin's heart for aviation runs through his veins. “My uncle was in the Philips flying service and my father was in the Air Force during his military service. I already knew from an early age that I wanted to work at the airport as well.”
