Eindhoven Airport does not need nature permit, but gets nitrogen cap

Share

The Ministry of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality (LNV) has reached a decision regarding Eindhoven Airport's permit request under the Nature Conservation Act. Eindhoven Airport is exempt from the permit requirement as the request pertains to the airport's pre-existing rights. Nevertheless, to safeguard the adjacent Natura2000 sites, the ministry intends to maintain oversight and avert any future increase in nitrogen emissions. Consequently, it has established a specific regulation for the airport, which defines the emissions from aviation-related activities - detailed in the nitrogen assessments of the permit application - as the absolute maximum allowed. Eindhoven Airport is now obligated to track and annually report its nitrogen emissions to the Ministry of LNV. Further details can be found in the accompanying parliamentary letter from the Ministry of LNV via this link (Dutch only).
