Main security checkpoint; the secure access to the apron

As a passenger, you don't get to see the hustle and bustle at the main security checkpoint. This secure access to and from the apron of Eindhoven Airport is only intended for staff (possibly driving a vehicle) who work on the apron and for suppliers delivering goods for restocking the aeroplanes. They can only gain access with a special pass. Anyone who wants to access the apron through this security checkpoint is screened. Security staff check the hand luggage, goods and vehicles of all personnel passing through the main security checkpoint. This also applies to the products and stocks of the retail shops and catering outlets that are located behind the security gate. In order to help security staff do their job even better, a new main security checkpoint was constructed and put into operation in October 2020. The new facility has a double vehicle secure gate and is more spacious. It was also built with circularity in mind, using recycled steel and wooden cladding for the outside structure. The building can be completely dismantled to ensure no residual waste is left behind. Sustainability has also been considered, such as the heat recovery system and a heat pump. The main security checkpoint isn't connected to the natural gas grid.
