Hard work but also time for a laugh at Capi on Eindhoven Airport

Learning by doing; that's what Maurice Mikkers, assistant-shop manager at Capi at Eindhoven Airport was born to do. Learning from the books wasn't going to cut it, it became clear to him. Maurice dropped out of two HBO studies, got a MBO diploma and has now been working at Capi for over ten years. He hasn't regretted it for a moment. "I learn best in practice. And working at an airport among planes is cool. Every season and every passenger is different." What started as a side job at then still Shop & Fly grew into a job at Capi with quite a bit of responsibility. Rolling up his sleeves, planning ahead, working together and making strides; that's what his career looks like. Maurice is now in charge of purchasing and maintaining the Capi assortment in the logistics center and planning and managing the ten-person team in the warehouse. He is also assistant shop manager and deputy shop manager. "Tamara my boss saw potential in me, she saw what I can do and that allowed me to grow. I am still grateful to her for that." He therefore knows how to get down to business and is only satisfied when the store and warehouse are in order, sales are good and the team works well together. "I am strict but fair. Employees are given freedom but I do want the work to be finished and the store and warehouse to look tidy." When necessary, he also likes to lend a hand in the warehouse. There is hard work but there is definitely time for a joke too. "The turnover has to be good but it is certainly also important that we have fun together at work." It's alright on both counts, Maurice outlines. "We had record sales in 2023 and our team of about 52 people in total is really close-knit." Here speaks a satisfied man. But does he have any wishes for the future? "To become a project manager and set up stores for Capi or another party abroad that seems like something I would like."
