First columns and roof section installed at the entrance building
Construction workers, the architect and project managers involved in the expansion visited the factory, where they received an explanation of the production process of the sleekly designed steel columns for the entrance building. In April, the first two of the eight steel columns and the first of the four roof sections of the entrance building were installed. A telescopic crane was used to lift the columns into position. For safety reasons, this work was carried out at night, when there are no passengers or visitors at the airport. The roof section was assembled on the construction site, and the steel columns were welded together on the airport premises. Positioning the columns and placing the 35 x 14‑metre roof section on top of them required careful and precise work. To improve safety on site, the sprinkler system, rainwater drainage and part of the ceiling were already integrated into the roof section in advance, so construction workers would not need to carry out this work at height. Shortly before the summer construction holiday, the installation of the columns and roof sections was completed.
