Faults and defects; Roger from engineering will fix it

This is the second story in the '#We are Eindhoven Airport' campaign. Every month we publish a story on this page featuring an airport staff member, followed a week later by a podcast created by Summa Aviation Services.

Lifts, escalators, baggage carousel systems, security equipment, parking systems, air treatment systems, locks and hinges, plumbing and electrics: “We repair pretty much everything except the planes,” says Roger Monsauret from Engineering Services at Eindhoven Airport. He is one of the six engineers in the team who take care of all reports of faults and defects, as well as the regular maintenance and management of buildings. Every engineer has his own speciality. Roger is particularly interested in solving malfunctions in the baggage system. “There's so much technology involved; it fascinates me how many other systems are linked to it. And there's always pressure to fix it straight away. That makes it challenging, but also exciting.” Roger understands better than anyone how important it is to set the right priorities when there's a mechanical failure. “Malfunctions in baggage handling, the car park and security are always a priority. Because if the barrier doesn't open or if there is a fault in the scanning or baggage systems, everything gets stuck.” Roger frequently dives into the data to get to the bottom of a defect. “I want to know why something goes wrong. Finding that out through data analysis is what makes my job so fascinating.” Roger is happy with the wide range of tasks in his job. "It's a lot and varied work, which is what makes it fun.” He is also happy with his team and the environment. “Working at an airport is of course very special. There aren't many people who have a view of the runway at work and see the planes up close. My job here is fun because there is always something going on.” The experienced engineer has worked at Eindhoven Airport for nine years and is a familiar face at the airport. He knows almost every nook and cranny in the airport and gets to meet plenty of people. “I'm in contact with a lot of the suppliers and with handler Viggo, for example, but I also know the cleaners and regular visitors.” My motivation? “Helping people. That's what I enjoy the most.”
