Entry/Exit System (EES)

Information for passengers outside the EU

Are you traveling to Eindhoven Airport with a non-EU passport? Then please take note when crossing the European border at the airport. Traveling to Europe is becoming even easier thanks to the new Entry/Exit System (EES), introduced by the European Union. This new system registers the entry and exit of passengers from non-EU countries who cross the European border at the airport upon arrival or departure. The EES will be implemented at Eindhoven Airport as of November 3, 2025.

What is EES? The Entry/Exit System replaces the current method of manually stamping passports. Instead, your travel information will be stored digitally, including: • the date and place of entry and exit; • fingerprints; • a facial scan (biometric data); • passport information.

The goal of the EES is to make border controls faster and more secure.

What does this mean for your journey at Eindhoven Airport? When arriving or departing through Eindhoven Airport, you may need a little more time at passport control. You will be asked to register your fingerprints and have a facial image taken. This only happens once during your first trip; afterwards, your data will be automatically recognized during future visits to Europe or Eindhoven Airport. Your EES registration remains valid for up to three years, or until your passport expires. Our staff and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee will be happy to assist you if you have any questions during the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, the EES does not apply to you. You do not need to register if you are traveling with an EU passport.

The EES applies to travelers who: • do not hold an EU, EEA, or Swiss nationality; • are applying for a short stay (maximum of 90 days within 180 days) or are traveling visa-free; • children traveling with a non-EU passport are also registered in the EES.

Once you are registered in the Entry/Exit System (EES), your fingerprints and facial image are securely stored in the system. During your next trip via Eindhoven Airport, only a quick verification of your biometric data and your arrival or departure date will take place. Your EES registration remains valid for up to three years, or until your passport expires. If you receive a new passport, you will need to have your facial image and fingerprints registered again.

Your data is collected and stored in accordance with European privacy legislation and with respect for your data protection rights. More information on how your data is used and how you can exercise your rights can be found on the European Union’s website. The website of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee provides more details about how your personal data is processed for the EES.

When you arrive at Eindhoven Airport and proceed to passport control, you will find clear signage directing you to the correct counter for non-EU travelers. Passengers are asked to present their travel document to the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee and provide their biometric data (facial image and fingerprints), which are registered in the EES. The border officer verifies the traveler’s information, asks any necessary questions, and digitally records the entry in the EES.
