Airport commits to electric flying together with region

Lightyear, the electric VDL buses, TU/e's solar-powered campervan, Amber, and DAF's electric range: our region is bubbling with initiatives on sustainable transport. Can Brainport also spread its wings to electric flying? Eindhoven Airport is convinced it can!

In April this year, Eindhoven Airport announced that it will start testing commercial electric scheduled services in 2026. The airport received its first electric two-seater in August this year. Now it is taking the next steps in the development of this new branch of sustainable aviation. Together with the Brainport region, it is exploring the options for regional battery and charging technology from the automotive sector in the world of electric flying.

This November, the Automotive Campus in Helmond will be the venue for a seminar where the Development Companies of Brabant (BOM) bring parties together in the field of battery and charging technology. Their goal is to answer the question “how the region contributes to the electrification of aviation”, in particular how Eindhoven Airport can prepare for this new class of aircraft. But it's not only the BOM that sees Eindhoven as a cradle for sustainable mobility solutions. Brainport is already investing heavily in emission-free transport from our region this month. And, for the very first time, electric flying is also on the radar of local innovators. Will battery technology from Brainport also power electric air travel in the future?
