Start of first visible preparatory work for terminal expansion

Share

The first visible preparatory work for the expansion of Eindhoven Airport's terminal will start soon. The canopy above the walkways on the apron will be partly demolished. The walkways- through which passengers walk to the aircraft- will be moved slightly to create extra space for construction. The car rental department- currently housed in the low-rise building right next to the Eindhoven Airport office building- will move to the terminal. It will be housed in a space next to the AH-to-Go. After the relocation of the car rental, the low-rise will be demolished. This work is expected to be completed in July. After completion of this work, the site will be prepared for construction and cables and pipes will be moved into the ground.

Construction will start at the end of this year. The expansion will be fully completed in 2027. The design for the expansion was created by EGM architects, Iv Bouw and Peutz. The intention is that construction company Heijmans will build the expansion. On the airside (after the security check), the terminal will be enlarged by approximately 10,000 square meters. On the landside (before the security check), the terminal will be expanded by 2,000 square meters. There will also be underground modifications for a baggage basement. There will be more space for gates and the non-Schengen area. There will also be more space for catering. The baggage basement will allow for faster and more efficient handling of arriving baggage. The expansion will soon provide more space and comfort for passengers, visitors and employees.

The terminal is being expanded because the current terminal is too small for the number of passengers. At the time, the terminal was built for up to 5 million passengers. In 2023, the airport had 6.8 million passengers. This year, too, the airport expects passenger numbers at this level.
